Welcome to volume seven of the Life Unscripted Blog Circle. If you are coming through the circle you have already had the pleasure of viewing the beautiful work of Sonia Epple Fotografie! If not be sure to circle back and view her post right here. Every month I am blown away by her talent!
I am so excited to share with you the great experiment that went on in our home this month. I wanted to be more engaged and say no less. I wanted the kids to come to me with their fort building games at six in the morning. I wanted to throw dance parties while cooking dinner. I wanted to be 100% involved.
So began the YES game! I said yes to my kids for everything they asked for and photographed the results.
(My husband thought I was crazy) I didn’t let the kids in on my secret because, honestly, that would have been total chaos, but – my goal was to say YES! Their faces were priceless and we made lots of memories. Here are some of my favorite moments.
(If you want to read more about this – I got the idea from this article… Brilliant!)
YES. We can buy a dozen pink roses for no reason at all.
YES. We can have ice cream at 9 in the morning. (There may also have been some marshmallows involved.)
YES. We can go in the splash pad – fully clothed.YES. We can spend and entire day cloud chasing as you tell me from the back seat where to turn and where to stop.
YES. We can have bubble baths for no reason at all.
YES, yes and yes. We can stop at every carousel we see!
YES. You can help me clean the floor!
Why? Because I think you are AWESOME and because this is what memories are made of.
And YES! Because I want more memories like these. xoxoxox
My Grammie always says, “The days are long but the years are short.” So true, Gram! I think I might just keep saying YES more.
Honestly – It made life easier for the whole family. When I realized I would say no automatically at certain times of the day (think dinner time or school drop off time) it was stressful when they wanted to change the routine. When I let that go we came up with ways to make things work to say yes and everyone was happier and more engaged. Who knew?!?!?!
Thank you so much for stopping by! Leave a comment and let me know how you try to keep up with your littles!
