“On October 24, 2018, we took our son to the urgent care because he had been sick for 4-5 days with a respiratory infection. We were sent home with some antibiotics after he had blood drawn and had a chest X-ray. Shortly after midnight, we were called by the on-call physician and informed that Tyler had cancer and that we needed to go to the Emergency Room to meet the oncology team and be admitted to the hospital to start treating Tyler’s leukemia.

Within 24 hours, our son was in the ICU fighting for his life. There was an endless stream of bad news- he had the “bad” leukemia. He would have to drop out of school and, due to the intensity of the treatment, we would have to live for 6-8 months in the hospital. The treatment was so severe that we were told to plan on many ICU admissions for serious infections and other complications.

We left the hospital on May 13, 2019. Tyler remains in remission but still has to go to MSTI every two weeks for monitoring and other treatments. It’s been a long, hard road and he’s fought through so many things.”
