It is spring here. I realize that many of the people this blog will reach are at home enjoying a snow day with their children BUT…. here, it is spring. The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, the snakes are waking up. That’s right. It is not all sunshine and roses in the valley of the sun. When the temperatures hits over 80 degrees for 5 days in a row the snakes wake up – and I imagine they are quite hungry. I am terrified of snake season but I do quite enjoy the explosion of spring color so I am going to try and forget about those awful creatures who slither up the sides of the cacti to bake in the sun and try to enjoy!
This first image is what the saguaro cactus looks like without its skin. Just like a tree. And it is wood! Did you know these cacti can live to be a couple hundred years old and they are home to all of the desert animals? Amazing!
This plant is called the Fairy Duster! Isn’t it pretty?
This cactus has fruit on it. Historically these fruits were havested and made into breads, and jams… even wine!
And of course we had to sample to some of the Desert Botanical Garden wine! (I should have taken the picture before we drank it all :)
Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out a little bit of our Sonoran Desert!
